Bangkok, renowned for its bustling streets and golden temples, is also a city of green sanctuaries. For those seeking a blend of fitness and nature, or simply a tranquil escape, Bangkok's parks are a revelation. Check out my most favorite parks in Bangkok!
1. Green Lung Bangkok š (Bang Krachao)
Green Lung Bangkok is a breath of fresh air, quite literally. Nestled in the heart of the city, this oasis offers a tranquil escape from the bustling streets. It's called Green Lung, due to its shape when looking at the map of Bangkok, but it's official name is Bang Krachao.
Situated in the Phra Pradaeng district, the Green Lung is best accessed by taking a boat across the Chao Phraya River from the Wat Khlong Toei Nok Pier. Once you arrive, you can rent a bike from M-Bike to explore the area. If you're using public transport, the BTS Skytrain is a great option to visit a nearby station like BTS Thonglor or MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, followed by a short taxi ride.
Cycling Adventures: I've cycled here a couple of times, and each visit feels like a mini-vacation. The elevated pathways wind through dense vegetation, offering a unique perspective of the wetlands below. You can rent a bike when arriving at the Bang Krachao Pier from M-Bike!
Local Vibes: The local markets here are a treat. Fresh produce, handmade crafts, and the aroma of Thai delicacies fill the air. It's a sensory delight!
Nature's Best: The lush greenery, serene waterways, and the occasional sighting of native birds make it a must-visit. Pro tip: Rent a bike and explore the winding paths. You won't regret it! P.S.: Watch out for Soi-Dogs š¦® ...it's not that they are aggressive or anything, just be aware that there are quite a lot of dogs roaming around.
Best Places to visit around the Green Lung
Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Garden: The heart and soul of the Green Lung. This park is not just about its lush greenery; it's about the wooden boardwalks, the bird-watching tower, and the sense of serenity it offers. Perfect for a leisurely bike ride or a tranquil walk.
Wat Bang Krachao Klang: In my opinion one of the most beautiful buddhist temples you can visit when biking around the Green Lung!
Bird Watching Tower: If you're lucky, you will be able to spot a couple of beautiful birds native to this park. The green Lineated Barbet is my most favorite one!
Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market: Now, this isn't your typical floating market. It's built around canals, offering a unique shopping experience. From local delicacies to handmade crafts, this market is a sensory delight. And yes, it's a must-visit during weekends.
Siamese Fighting Fish Gallery: A tribute to the vibrant Betta fish, this gallery is a colorful spectacle. Dive into Thai history and discover the significance of these beautiful creatures.
2. Benjakitti Park šø
šhttps://goo.gl/maps/JRhxG7hmMBNX7gsi6 šhttps://goo.gl/maps/vTGeq43BGBVMEWKc8 (NEW Forest Park + Skywalk)
Benjakitti Park is a visual delight. The first time I visited, the reflection of the city skyline on the lake during golden hour left me mesmerized.
By day, the park is a hub of activities. Families picnicking under the shade, artists sketching the city skyline, and fitness enthusiasts making the most of the jogging tracks.
The park's lake offers a picturesque backdrop, especially from the little pagodas scattered around.
As the sun sets, the park takes on a romantic hue. The illuminated fountains dance to the tunes of soft music, making it a favorite spot for couples. And if you're a photography enthusiast like me, the reflections of skyscrapers on the lake during the golden hour are nothing short of magical.
The new addition, Benchakitti Forest Park, boasts green spaces and an impressive Skywalk, perfect for those selfie moments. And if you're into sports, keep an eye out for the upcoming tennis, basketball, and soccer courts.
Pro-Tip: Make sure to bring a bottle of water and sunscreen! The Skywalk is out in the open and depending on the time of your visit, it can get pretty toasty and the nearest exit or shade might be further away than you like it to be. āļø š§“
The Green Mile š
The Green Mile is a bridge that connects Benchakitti Park to Lumphini Park. As you walk this path, you'll come across quirky buildings and alleyways, offering a unique blend of nature and urban views.
Morning Vibes: Early mornings here are magical. The path is lined with trees, their canopies providing a respite from the sun, while locals practice Tai Chi, adding to the serene ambiance.
Central Location: Its central location makes it easily accessible. Whether you're coming from a nearby hotel or a distant part of the city, this scenic route is worth the journey.
Night Walks: The illuminated path, with the city lights in the backdrop, makes for a romantic evening stroll. Location & Accessibility: The Green Mile connects Lumpini and Benjakitti parks. Starting from the Silom area, you can take the BTS to Sala Daeng or the MRT to Silom and walk to Lumpini Park. From there, the Green Mile leads directly to Benjakitti.
And if you're feeling thirsty or peckish, there are services available to lift goods onto the bridge to quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger. ;)
3. Lumphini Park š¦
The artificial lake is a hub of activity. From paddle boats to bird watching, there's always something happening. The park's monitor lizards are quite the celebrities. While they mostly keep to themselves, it's quite a sight when they decide to take a dip in the lake! The park often hosts cultural events and fairs.

The park is also close to Silom, a vibrant area filled with shops, restaurants, and nightlife venues. Whether you're looking to exercise, relax, or simply take a leisurely walk, Lumphini Park has something for everyone.
The Sala Daeng BTS station and the Lumphini MRT station are the closest public transport options.
4. Chatuchak Park š¦
Chatuchak Park, also known as Rot Fai Park or Queen Sirikit Park, is a collection of distinctive areas, each offering its unique charm. The main park features a serene lake, pathways, resting areas, and sports facilities.
A personal favorite is the Bangkok Butterfly Garden, a place that never fails to amaze with its beauty.
Another highlight is the Queen Sirikit Flower Park, a romantic spot perfect for a date. With colorful flowers and picturesque paths alongside a river, it's easy to fall in love with this part of the park.
5. Suan Luang Rama IX Park šŗ
Located a bit away from the city center, Suan Luang Rama IX Park is worth the journey. The park boasts an impressive outdoor gym, a gigantic pagoda for meditation, and various unique spots to explore.
Outdoor Gym: It boasts the best free outdoor gym in Bangkok. I even spotted a Muay Thai class during one of my visits.
Meditation Spot: The gigantic pagoda is my favorite spot for meditation and stretching.
Annual Flower Festival: Every year, the park hosts a flower show, displaying beautiful flora. It's an event not to be missed!
From boating on its vast lake to attending cultural events, there's always something happening here. The park boasts gardens inspired by global designs. The French garden, the Chinese garden, and the tropical garden are some of my favorites. Each offers a unique experience, transporting you to a different part of the world.
Situated in the Prawet district, Suan Luang Rama IX Park is a bit further from the city center. The easiest way to get there is by taxi or a ride-hailing service. If you're up for an adventure, you can take the Airport Rail Link to Hua Mak and then catch a taxi to the park.
A special mention goes to the annual Flower Festival, a grand event showcasing beautiful flora throughout the park. Held between November and December!
